Become a NAMI Teacher
NAMI California offers training for people interested in becoming teachers in NAMI’s signature programs, including Family to Family/Familia a Familia, NAMI Basics, Peer to Peer/Persona a Persona, and Family Support Group.
Family to Family/Familia a Familia training is for family members volunteers to teach the (English or Spanish) Family to Family 6-12 week course, an educational class for family members who have a loved one with a mental illness. Must have graduated from F2F/FaF class prior to applying for training.
NAMI Basics training is for family members and caregivers desiring to teach the Basics 6 week course, a course that supports parents of children who are affected by a mental illness.
Family Support Group training is for volunteers desiring to conduct a family support group and is a family member of someone living with a mental illness. Experience having participated in a support group is preferred.
Peer to Peer/Persona a Persona training is for peers who live with mental illness who are interested in teaching (English or Spanish) Peer to Peer 10 week course, an educational supportive class for peers who live with mental illness. Must have graduated from P2P/PaP class prior to applying for training.
Materials, training, lodging and meals are free for all trainings.
APPLICATION PROCESS: Contact us at NAMI Monterey if you are interested in becoming trained. Candidates must be referred for training by the Program Coordinator, or a NAMI Facilitator/Teacher, or their local NAMI board member.
The following trainings are expected this year:
- 1 MH101 State Training in July 2018
- 1 Basics State Training in August 2018
- 1 F2F State Training in September 2018
- 1 FSG State Training in October 2018
- 1 Persona a Persona State Training in November 2018
NAMI CA also plans to offer the following trainings before December 2018 (Dates and location are tentative).

o MH101 training
